If your mind is still buzzing from everything you learned, use this blog and yesterday’s recap to help you digest all you’ve heard over the last two days.
And for those who were unable to attend, you can still register to gain access to all the great content shared at this year’s digital conference on-demand through June 25. Explore the full agenda to learn more about everything available through the TAF virtual platform.
Here are some of the highlights from day two of the event:
Analytics everywhere: from race track to the factory floor
Day two built on the day one momentum with a tremendous line up of analytics and data management guests, including Hamid Mehdizadeh from Pfizer, Kate Strachnyi from DATAcated, author Maria Konnikova, and Nic Rohart from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.
In a fireside chat between TIBCO Chief Analytics Officer Michael O’Connell and Hamid Mehdizadeh, Director of Manufacturing Intelligence at Pfizer, the two discussed how Pfizer is transforming its manufacturing processes to become a more predictive, adaptive organization. According to Mehdizadeh, “While our scientists push the boundaries of physics, chemistry, and biology to manufacture important life-saving medicines, we are helping them by introducing digital tools that make their day-to-day jobs easier and enable data-driven decisioning.” To produce over 23 billion doses of medicines and vaccines each year, it’s critical that Pfizer decreases time from ideation to model deployment by rapidly provisioning and cycling through data to get insights about ideal operations, or golden batches.
Heleen Snelting from the TIBCO Data Science team was then joined by Kate Strachnyi, founder of DATAcated (a term she invented meaning dedicated to data) and two-time LinkedIn top voice in data science and analytics with over 150,000 followers. When asked, Strachnyi claimed her superpower is “bringing a community together, getting individuals together who are excited about a similar topic to work toward a bigger goal.”
Just as Strachnyi brings together the analytics community, the TIBCO Any Data Hub Blueprint brings together data across the enterprise for better access, trust, and control. Michael O’Connell returned with Dev Kannabiran, Senior Director Presales at TIBCO, in a live end-end demo on TIBCO’s Hyperconverged Analytics on the Any Data Hub—with analyses of remote machines, geospatial data, logs, weather, and production data—to keep systems running, prevent failures, and extend equipment life. Spotfire’s visual analytics and TIBCO® Data Science workflow from blended views managed by TIBCO® Data Virtualization, coupled with TIBCO EBX™ software for metadata/master data modeling and TIBCO Streaming for real-time updates, to solve a broad class of data and analytics challenges.
The audience was then treated to another real-world application of this cutting-edge technology when O’Connell and Nic Rohart, Lead Vehicle Dynamicist at Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, popped the virtual hood on TIBCO’s analytics partnership with the seven-time world champion, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. To optimize performance for race weekends, the team runs millions of simulations covering fifty-or-so car set-up parameters and incorporating the track layout, weather conditions, and even driver preferences and driving styles. Rohart explained, “The engineers adjust the setup continuously—before the event, in-transit to circuit, trackside during the weekend, from practice to qualifying runs. These teams have the results of the simulations in Spotfire and can filter, mark, zoom to the detail they want to explore.”

Speaking of performance and process, Maria Konnikova, author of The Confidence Game and The Biggest Bluff and a winning professional poker player, took the virtual stage to share how the worlds of analytics and psychology interact for making faster and smarter decisions. She cautioned attendees to not focus on individual outcomes but to devote their time to analyzing the processes and decisions that will put their organizations in a better position to win in the long run.
Finally, O’Connell interviewed Michael Swartz, Senior Director, Global Solutions and Strategy at PerkinElmer, and Bob Moore, Sr. Director, WW Field Application at PerkinElmer, about how Perkin Elmer partners with TIBCO to bring analytics software solutions to the pharmaceutical R&D world. According to Swartz, “PerkinElmer’s Spotfire-enhanced solutions enable integration of research and clinical data to bring efficacious vaccines and therapies to market safely and quickly. The key is being able to pull pre-clinical, clinical, and post-marketing data together quickly, apply different algorithms to make sense of these data, and visually analyze the results up and down the value chain.”
