The Analytics Forum 2023 (TAF) has officially wrapped! TAF, presented by Spotfire®, showcased over 30 expert data visionaries from around the world, including speakers from the Flemish Government to the National University Health System in Singapore.
Did you miss TAF? No problem—watch nearly all of the sessions on-demand on our community! If you’re not sure where to start, below are four excellent TAF sessions from power players in the energy, healthcare, and agriculture sectors.
Green power in the energy sector
In an igniting customer breakout session focused on operational efficiency within the energy sector, we heard from Andrea Pica, Head of Global HGT Remote Predictive Diagnostic Center at Enel Green Power and Thermal Generation, and Claudio La Grassa, Predictive Maintenance Engineer at Enel Green Power and Thermal Generation. They detail how Enel Green Power and Thermal Generation uses Spotfire to monitor and analyze the status of gas turbines around the world to provide increased availability, optimize operational maintenance costs, and track combustion and stability levels to prevent dangerous gas turbine events.
When detailing the tools the company uses in its remote predictive diagnostic center, Pica explains the critical role of Spotfire stating, “Spotfire is used on a monthly basis to analyze and create dedicated reports for each gas turbine in the fleet. It’s very crucial because it allows us to analyze each turbine of the fleet and determine the health of the machine. Thanks to Spotfire, we can analyze and represent [insight] in a simple and effective way for a large amount of data—nearly 2 million measurements for each of the 56 gas turbines each month.”

Trend detection for O&G power players
In this customer-led session, we heard from S&P Global on how organizations can extend Spotfire capabilities to improve decision-making within the oil and gas industry. Analytics Explorer, a workflow application based on the Spotfire platform, uses proprietary data connections and analytical workflows to help companies around the globe make critical investment decisions. In this session, Toby Burrough, Associate Director of Product Management at S&P Global, details just how the workflow application helps professionals in over 5,500 oil companies around the world analyze trends, visualize formations, and create/automate detection capabilities.
After his live demonstration of Spotfire, Burrough states, “Through a partnership with Spotfire, S&P Global’s Analytics Explorer application is allowing energy companies to understand their assets like never before.”

The AI advancement in healthcare analytics
In another eye-opening customer session, The National University Health System (NUHS) in Singapore discussed its implementation of the Endeavor AI platform. This platform incorporates various technologies, including Spotfire analytics, to improve its hospital operations and patient care using real-time data processing, monitoring, and advanced analytics. NUHS Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Kee Yuan Ngiam, details the platform’s success in predicting hospital bed availability up to two weeks in advance, and in improving patient outcomes using patient and administration data, such as length of stay and discharge patterns.
When discussing how Endeavour AI works and how NUHS uses it to enable more efficient outcomes, Dr. Kee Yuan Ngiam states, “We can build a dashboard with Spotfire that predicts patient loads in the hospital over the next couple of days, so in this particular case we are able to predict emergency room attendance and we can even drill down in terms of patient severity.”

Governmental & agricultural use of Spotfire
Lastly, The Flemish Department of Agriculture and Fisheries shares its story of providing farmers with data insights to support their success and how the data shared with policymakers helps develop the best public policies for agricultural efforts. In this customer session led by IT Department Head of the Flemish Government’s Dept. of Agriculture and Fisheries, Jan Jacobs, and Policy Advisor of the Flemish Government’s Dept. of Agriculture and Fisheries, Jonathan Plateau, you’ll see a demo of the A&F Department’s public, embedded Spotfire application that enables exploration, collaboration, and insights discovery for more than 50,000 farmers, fishers, researchers, and policymakers.
When detailing the reliance and critical role of data within the agriculture industry, Jan Jacobs states, “It might be a surprise to you, but agriculture these days is immensely data-driven. Within our department, we use satellites to monitor each and every farmer’s crop type and field on a weekly basis. And by looking at the images and how they evolve throughout the year, we can see the impact of droughts or heat waves on the food that’s produced there.”
